While researching the Taber craftsmen, additional details were found that related to Nicholas.

  • "Nicholas Taber had a license in 1802 (tavern) which was before he located on the corner of Main and Osxford Streets." The sign is at the Colonial Club. Old Dartmouth Historical Society 1915

  • "... in 1806 the lot was sold to Nicholas Taber and the present house built and occupied by him as the 'Rising Sun Inn' ".  (In the Oxford Villiage) Old Dartmouth Historical Society 1915

  • Our County and its People (Bristol County)  ...  "plane making by Nicholas Taber and Sons" was documented within the broad period of 1776 to 1815.

  • 1817 Nicholas and James Taber were securities for William's probate with Sally / Sarah the widow.

  • Post 1818, Nicholas was security to Sally Taber on behalf of her children. Sally was the widow of William Taber, noting this was the William whose inventory included "4 planes and other carpentry tools" worth $4.00.

  • As noted in the deeds, in 1818 and 1819, Nicholas and the above Sally / Sarah, bought and sold William's property following the probate assessments. The two security documentations and the 1818 / 1819 deeds involving Sally, widow of William, lead to the editor's belief that this William was likely his brother.

(The presentation of visually based elements (scale imprints, scale drawings, etc.) is a challenge, especially when moving from the printed page to the realm of an electronic medium. For reference, the original GAWP 5, CAWP, BARS and SOJ publications had pages which were 8-1/2" in width.)
