Trade listed as a house carpenter and joiner in two 1811 deeds from Chindidamoose twp, Clearfield Co., PA. In one of the deeds, he as a grantor signed his name as Hoover.

Martin was born as Johann Martin Huver (Hoover) on 9-5-1762 in York Co., PA. In all of the period documents and deeds, he went by Martin. He died in Lawrence, Clearfield Co., PA on 6-6-1841.

 

Martin was a private in the 1st Co., Dover twp, Capt. Peter Speece, 6th Batt.

He and Catherine married before 1795 and moved to the area which became the Chindidamoose twp in about 1801 according to Clearfield Co, Past and Present. They built their farm on the banks of the West branch of the Susquehanna River. He built a sawmill on Montgomery Creek. History of Clearfield Co. (The 1811 deeds did not mention a wife, but a 1840 deed tied Martin and Catherine to the 1811 property.)

Their children were; John, Samuel, Jacob, David, Joseph, Elizabeth, Catherine, Polly, Nancy and Esther.

​Chididamoose twp formed about 1807 and Lawerence split off from it in 1813 according to Clearfield Past and Present.

Martin was active in civic affairs, becoming a State Representative in 1822 and the County Treasurer  by 1833.
