(1761 b Wilmington, MA - working in Wilmington - Boston ca 1795 - VT ca 1801, 1803 - Onondaga Co., NY - d 1820 in Onondaga Co., NY (In the records, there is some variance in his birth year between ca 1756 and 1761... including his own documentation for his pension in 1818! In addition, some family histories thought he was born in Wales and migrated in 1774, but the Wilmington records should be solid ... not transcribed.) The Wilmington town records are clear with all of Thomas and Ruth's children births recorded between 1751 and 1761, the 1761 date being Sherebiah's. The birth of Sherebiah and his wife Betsey's first child, Betsey, is also recorded in Wilmington in 1785.

muster / pay roll mentions a Stillwater location which is also known as Bemis Heights ... associated with the Battles of Saratoga, Gen. Gates, Gen. Arnold and the surrender of Gen. Burgoyne.

His descendant GA Lakin wrote: "Sherebiah Evans" ... "a millwright and miller, as well as a shipwright and builder" ... "construction of old ship Constitution" ... "shouldering a musket in defense of our independence"

Sherebiah's RW record via one of his 1818 pension documents. Note his reference to Burgoyne's surrender despite this service record's reference being in 1778 instead of in the Fall of 1777. But ... the August - November 1777 muster and pay roll record (Middlesex Co's 2nd Militia Regiment of Massachusetts Militia) is part of his record, tying into Col. Bullard, Stillwater (Bemis Heights) and Gen. Gates ... all part of the two Saratoga Battles in September and October 1777. He's on Saratoga's list of soldiers who fought.
Betsey Evans' September 1820 account of family's circumstances (she and four children 16 and under) as related to the late Sherebiah's RW pension. In the records, an inventory follows, documenting that the estate is worth $92.76 .... no tools.
The S Evans plane mentioned in GAWP5. Note the 1778 date with initials, 10 5/16" length, fruitwood body and birch wedge. The patina and wear patterns of the wedge are such that there's "no doubt that it is original" despite the difference in the wood. Details and photos courtesy of Mike Humphrey.
