1800 US census records Jesse Clifton in MD, John Clifton in MA, Joshua and Joseph Clifton in DE, in addition to JEhu in PA. Jehu was researched based on the W Powell links cited in GAWP5.
Noting the 1802 entry for John Clifton on 8th mentioned above, a similar parallel was found in the Philadelphia deed records for 1805. Here a John Clifton and wife Susannah, bought and sold property on Locust Street. John's trade was a house carpenter. John may be another carpenter in Philadelphia at the same time as Jehu. However, since no census records (1800-1830) or other period records were found for a John Clifton, John and Jehu may be one and the same craftsman.
